TEDx events originated in California and are known for the short TED Talks in which a speaker gives an inspiring talk about their expertise or conviction within 18 minutes. Today, TED Talks are organized all over the world, including TEDxRotterdam.

A local Rotterdam livestream partner

As a TEDx organization, you are required to livestream all TED Talks and make them available on YouTube afterwards. Valo had already worked with TEDxRotterdam in 2017 as the link between the organization and the then livestream partner.

In 2019, TEDxRotterdam asked Valo whether, as a local Rotterdam-based partner, we would like to livestream the new talks, which we gladly did.

The assignment: social media livestream and a flawless hybrid event from start to finish

Valo was responsible for the flawless running of an entire day full of TED Talks. In consultation with TEDxRotterdam, a social media livestream on Facebook was chosen. A few weeks before the event, Valo coached the presenters on presentation skills together with communication agency Debatrix.

Because the show host dropped out shortly before the event, Valo managed to arrange a real Rotterdam presenter and host at the last minute, namely Peter van Drunen. He hosted the entire program.

The entire day ran according to a tight production script. One speaker after another took to the stage and captivated the audience with their stories and insights.

Valo’s camera crew captured the talks with razor-sharp precision. Afterwards, the footage still had to be edited, and the individual talks were online on YouTube within 24 hours. The event was highly appreciated by both the people in the room and the online viewers.

These TED Talks are a fine example of a hybrid event, where both the audience in the room and online followers around the world enjoy the same event at the same time.

During the day itself, alongside the almost 2,000 people in the room, roughly the same number of online viewers followed the talks. Meanwhile, the Rotterdam talks have been viewed more than 30,000 times on YouTube. 

And that immediately proves the advantage of a hybrid event. With physical and online participation at the same time, you have the best of both worlds and you significantly expand the reach and appeal of your company or organization!
