Livestreamed General Assembly for NVMT

The Dutch Association for Manual Therapy (NVMT) has around 2,000 members and, like any other trade association, is required to facilitate an annual general assembly. To make the general assembly accessible during the coronavirus crisis, NVMT was looking for a livestream partner to facilitate their online meeting. Valo helped them make this happen and increase member engagement.

Online General Assembly with legal voting platform

The biggest challenge with the online general assembly was setting up the online voting round. During the general assembly, all members are allowed to vote on the submitted documents. In normal circumstances, this vote must be recorded under the supervision of a notary, which meant online voting was not possible in the past. Vote weighting was also a challenge, because a vote from a board member counts more heavily than a vote from an ordinary member.

For this, Valo brought in a partner that provided a secure and closed legal voting platform, with which vote weighting could be assigned per member. This solution met all legal guidelines and was therefore a perfect fit for an online general assembly.

Result

An hour before the general assembly, Valo broadcast a one-hour public lecture, after which the closed general assembly took place. Because voting was done online, the result could be shown immediately, which made for an efficient voting round.

Organizing the general assembly online led to an above-average turnout of members. Future general assemblies will therefore also be held online or in hybrid form.
