Overloon War Museum

Background

Overloon War Museum focuses on the history of the Second World War in the Netherlands. Through an earlier collaboration with the museum, Valo was approached for a very special project: building a livestream studio in a moving golf cart!

The museum had already had the ambition to take a major step in digitalisation early on. It wanted to create more awareness around the Battle of Overloon (1944), so that this story would never be forgotten. To this end, it came up with a digital tour that can be followed before the museum visit. In this way, visitors gain more context about the history.

Wireless golf cart with professional equipment

The museum is large and the live tour has several stops in the museum. A golf cart is therefore the ideal way to move quickly through the museum! Valo mounted four cameras on the golf cart that can film in every direction.

One of the cameras is a wireless camcorder that can be removed from the golf cart and carried into a tank. It also has lighting, so sharp footage can be broadcast even from inside the tank.

Chosen platform: WebinarGeek

Because the museum wanted to offer the tours for a fee, we chose WebinarGeek in consultation with the museum. This software is intuitive, offers multiple languages and has a function for offering paid livestreams. Valo handled the integration of WebinarGeek and the Overloon War Museum website. The tours are live but can be watched back later by online visitors. It is also possible to replay earlier episodes.

Valo provided

  • A completely wireless studio with cameras, lighting and microphones, all mounted on a golf cart

  • Guaranteed internet connection through smart solutions, despite WiFi not being available everywhere in the museum

  • An integration between WebinarGeek and the Overloon War Museum website

  • The right coaching so the museum can stream the livestreams fully independently

  • Advice on purchasing camera equipment and lighting

Result

The museum offers different kinds of live tours, which can be purchased on the website. They are available in Dutch and English, which also brought international attention to the museum. British and American veterans were able to come into contact again with the tank they used to drive in. The golf cart also made the news with an article in De Limburger.

In short, this is a great promotional tool for the museum, which they can use entirely according to their own wishes. A great investment for the future!

Price indication

This is one of the larger livestream projects in which the emphasis was on studio build. This was custom work for which the price depends on several factors. Think of roughly €8,000 to €10,000 for the advisory costs, coaching and building the moving studio. The museum purchased all equipment itself and bought the golf cart.

Very professional and pleasant guidance!
