Livestreams and Hybrid Events for Awesome Rotterdam

The Awesome Foundation is an international initiative in which so-called trustees pool money, creating a budget of €1,000 for a new project in a city.

Awesome Rotterdam takes place 4 to 5 times a year, during which Rotterdammers are allowed to pitch ideas to make the city a little more fun or a little better with that €1,000. The winner of the pitch gets to use this budget for his or her project. Announcing the winners live has since become a real award show.

Low budget, high connection

Valo was already part of Awesome Rotterdam as a trustee and also wanted to support this city project with its professional expertise. Awesome Rotterdam uses the Valo START package: a simple setup with two cameras and a microphone, which allows them to broadcast the live award shows with minimal coaching. Valo is also present live for extra support during these events. The Valo START solution is ideal for non-profit organizations that want to create extra connection with their community on a small budget, or reach a larger audience.

Result

Awesome Rotterdam was one of the first chapters to start livestreaming. That has to do with the fact that it is a non-profit organization and livestreaming is often too expensive to pay for from donations.

Still, many people turned out to be happy with the hybrid event, where about 50 people sit in the room and the rest watch online. A co-organizer who has since emigrated can now also watch from abroad. And a few proud parents saw from another province how their son’s project was chosen as the best project and he received a prize. Interested people from other Dutch cities now also regularly follow Awesome Rotterdam’s livestreams. Through the livestreams, the Awesome Foundation as a whole has become better known.
