City of Rotterdam

Starting simple with Valo START

The City of Rotterdam asked Valo to advise on studio construction and train the media support team so they could run live productions independently.

Valo advised starting simply with a small studio and basic equipment: the Valo START package, a compact and portable studio setup. A three-person media support team then received a four-day crash course in self-directed live switching.

Crash course and sabotage day

The first day introduced the livestreaming landscape: light, sound, IT, production, direction, floor management and switching. The course covered Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Teams Live Events, YouTube, Vimeo and Invitado.

The second and third days focused on camera operation. On the final “sabotage day”, Valo built a live simulation and deliberately introduced problems, so the team learned to solve last-minute issues themselves.

Result

The training created a media support team that can now livestream independently with a simple starter package. The city no longer needs external parties for simple online or hybrid events, and the team has a strong foundation for larger productions.
